Ruby Jean Beverlin Holmes, nearly 92, of Decatur, IL, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 6, 2012.
A celebration of her life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 8, 2012) at Daybreak Community Church in Edmond, OK, where she lived for the last 15 months of her blessed life. In Decatur, IL, the celebration of her life will be held at the First Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday (Feb.10, 2012) with visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church, 1320 Arbor Drive, Decatur, IL 62526.
Jean was born March 3, 1920, in Newton, IL, to Sylvan and Edith Beverlin. She had two younger brothers, Sam and Joe, and two younger sisters, Mildred and Jane; all preceded her in death. Jean married Harry Holmes on December 10, 1949, and they were blessed with 55 years together. Jean was active in the First Baptist Church and retired after many years of service at the Illinois Unemployment Office. Besides loving the Lord and her church, she also loved gardening and bird watching. She volunteered for many years at Rock Springs Conservation Area and Nature Center. Jean was a wonderful Christian woman who loved her family and friends very much.
They are survived by their daughter Pamela Holmes, son Jim Holmes and daughter-in-law RuthAnn, and daughter Nancy Parrish and son-in-law Boe. Their legacy also includes six grandchildren and their spouses, six great-grandchildren, cousins, and nieces and nephews.
